Where This Job Goes Sideways
The failure that turns a $150 call into a $600 one is when the door has already come off track on one side while still hanging on the other. On a single-car or double-car door that's still partially engaged, the panel can be under enough spring tension to swing hard once the last roller lets go. We won't force a door back onto a bent track under load - if the track is bowed more than about a quarter inch, or a hinge has torn loose from the panel, that section gets replaced rather than reset. Trying to save a bent track usually means it derails again within months. The other place this goes wrong is when a homeowner has already tried to push the door back on themselves. That's how top rollers end up jammed sideways in the vertical track, which takes longer to free than a straight off-track call.
How Long It Takes
A straightforward off-track call - one section down, tracks straight, rollers intact - is usually a same-visit fix once we're on site. Because we run out of Texas City and Tiki Island sits about 10 miles out, factor that travel into when we can get there, not into how long the repair itself takes. If a track needs to be replaced rather than realigned, or if the door needs new rollers across the board because of age (common on doors from the early-to-mid 1990s), that adds time to the visit but rarely turns into a second trip. We carry standard track sections and rollers on the truck; it's only the less common panel or hinge parts that occasionally need ordering.
What You Pay
We don't post a flat number here because off-track repairs range from a simple roller reset to a track and hardware swap, and the honest number depends on what's actually damaged once we're looking at the door. What we can tell you is where the line falls: on a home in this income bracket, replacing a full 30-year-old door system is often the better long-term call once you're also facing worn rollers, an aging opener, and a track that's been reset more than once. A single off-track repair on hardware that's otherwise sound is almost always the cheaper and correct move. We'll tell you which situation you're in before we start work, not after.
Stocked Parts
Our truck carries the parts that fail most often on doors from this era - standard-gauge track sections, nylon and steel rollers, and common hinge sets. That covers the majority of off-track calls on Tiki Island without a return trip. What we don't stock is discontinued panel hardware for older custom doors or specialty low-headroom track kits; those get ordered once we've confirmed the exact model on site, which can add a few days to that specific part of the job. If your door is one of the newer installs in the area, parts availability usually isn't an issue at all.
